If the world community wants to thank you for conserving forests, what form of gratitude do you need?
History
Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI) began when we asked the above question to communities around Gunung Palung National Park (TNGP) in West Kalimantan.
The ASRI team spent 400 hours sitting with and listening to the communities. Here's what the communities asked for: "Quality and affordable health services, and training in organic farming." The lack of access to health services, which results in high health costs, and the lack of alternative livelihoods are the reasons why people cut wood in forest areas.
Based on the results of these discussions, in 2007 ASRI opened KLINIK ASRI services to provide quality and affordable health services for all levels of society. So people no longer need to choose between: health or forest.
The health of humans and the health of the environment are inextricably intertwined. If both are not healthy, neither can be.
